What is a neurotoxin?

A neurotoxin, most commonly known as Botox (Xeomin and Dysport are other popular neurotoxin products) is a botulinum toxin that when injected into a muscle, temporarily paralyzes that muscle. Neurotoxin is most commonly used in the forehead and crows feet to almost instantly decrease the appearance of lines. Neurotoxins are also often used in other areas of the face like the lip area and the jaw to correct lock jaw.

What is dermal fIller?

Dermal fillers are injections that add volume to areas like the face and hands. There are several types of dermal fillers. This common cosmetic procedure produces results right away and allows skilled technicians to enhance facial structure and correct volume loss. Most commonly used FDA approved fillers are made from Hyaluronic acid, Poly L lactic acid or Polymethylmethacrylate.

Are neurotoxin and dermal filler treatments safe?

Studies have shown that Botox, other neurotoxins and dermal fillers when used in low but effective doses, does not have long term negative effects.There are no long-term or life-threatening adverse effects related to botulinum toxin treatment or dermal filler treatment for any cosmetic indications. As with any treatment there are side effect. The most commonly reported are swelling, headache, bruising, itching and tenderness. Very rare and more severe risks are outlined in your consent form prior to your appointment.

Will my face look overdone or unnatural?

Many people start getting preventive treatments like Botox in their 20s and 30s. There's no one set age that's the perfect time to start doing neurotoxin or dermal fillers.
